Tarek Elrich’s stunning run during Adelaide United’s 4-1 win against Melbourne City on Saturday night earned praise from football fans the world over.

The question now becomes whether or not the incredible individual effort could earn Elrich a nomination for FIFA’s Puskas Award – a prize awarded to the player who scores the ‘most beautiful’ goal of the year.

If nominated, Elrich would become just the second Australian to earn a nomination for the award, after Tim Cahill was nominated for his powerful equaliser against the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup.

He would also be the first player to be nominated for a goal scored in the A-League.
