Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather and Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao are set to face each other for the first time in the bout dubbed the ‘fight of the century’ at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Coverage of the event begins on Sunday, May 3 at 11:00am (AEST), with Maywather and Pacquiao’s ring walk expected to take place at around 1:00pm (AEST).

In the lead up to the bout, The Roar has compiled all the key information you need to know about the men at the centre of the event.

Height: 173cm (5ft 8in)
Weight: 67kg

Mayweather enters this bout risking a perfect record of 47 wins and zero losses.

Since making his professional debut in 1996, Mayweather has knocked out his opponents an incredible 26 times, making for a 55% knockout rate.

Only once has a decision been technically close to going against Mayweather, with his single victory by split decision coming against Oscar De La Hoya through 12 rounds in 2007.

Mayweather would go on to retire at the end of 2007 with a 39-0 record.

His comeback, against Juan Manuel Marquez on May 2, 2009, followed a 21-month period in retirement. Since his return, Mayweather has only managed to claim a victory by knockout once in eight bouts, defeating Victor Oritz in the fourth round in 2011.

In his two most recent bouts, falling in May and September of 2014, Mayweather faced Argentine welterweight and light welterweight, Marcos Maidana – seven years his junior. Both fights went the distance, with Mayweather emerging by unanimous and majority decisions.

Many remember Mayweather’s first bout with Maidana as one of the closest brushes with defeat he has ever experienced. One judge scored the fight 114–114, a draw. The second scored it 116–112. The third scored it 117–111.

Mayweather has not fought at any venue other than the MGM Grand in Las Vega since his bout against Argentine, Carlos Baldomir in 2006.

Manny Pacquiao

Odds: $2.80*
Age: 36
Nickname: Pac-Man
Height: 169cm
Weight: 67kg
Stance: Southpaw (left-handed stance)
Record: 57–5–2 (38 KO)

The Pac-Man made his professional debut over 20 years ago, against Filipino countryman, Edmund Enting Ignacio. Since then, Paquiao has amassed an imposing record of 57 wins, five losses and two draws.

Incredibly, 66% of his wins have ended in a knockout.

Since losing to Erik Morales in early 2005, Pacquiao’s record has read 18 wins and two losses from 20 bouts. His two losses during the past decade both fell in 2012 against Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez.

His loss to Bradley was particularly contentious, coming via a controversial split decision. Pacquiao and Bradley would face again in 2014, a bout in which Pacquiao handed Bradley the first loss of his 34-fight career.

Pacquiao’s loss to Marquez marked the first time the Pac-Man had been knocked out since 1999, and knocked out he was in every sense of the term! Marquez landed a powerful blow to Pacquiao’s face in the sixth round, leaving the Filipino flat on his face, out cold.

In the past decade both fighters have shared the following opponents: Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto.

While De La Hoya proved the most trouble for Mayweather, Pacquiao took just eight rounds to force the American from the ring.

Marquez’s stunning knockout against Pacquiao is the only blemish on an otherwise perfect record against these shared opponents.
