Champion Kangaroo fullback Billy Slater has ruled himself out of Friday night’s rugby league Test against the Kiwis at Suncorp.

Slater’s dicky shoulder injury is taking an age to mend, but being the consummate team man, he wasn’t going to let them down.

Centre Greg Inglis is now likely to take over the fullback role, with Michael Jennings promoted to the starting line-up to partner centre debutant Will Chambers.

They will be an express speed combination.

The Kiwis have lost one as well with Penrith winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak taking an early plea for his grade one dangerous throw of Shark Wade Graham.

And that means just a week off.

What gives with these blokes? Does there have to be another Alex McKinnon tragedy before the NRL judiciary sends the stupid players on a long holiday?

Being bashed with a one-week feather is obviously no deterrent. Just about every week there’s at least one dangerous throw or spear tackle, and it must stop.

A minimum four to five weeks’ holiday should make the stupids sit up and take notice.

And Kiwi coach Stephen Kearney sent the wrong message when he said: “We are all gutted for Dallin, I know he’s pretty disappointed as well.

“He’s a wonderful kid, and was champing at the bit to finally play for his country.”

Watene-Zelezniak should have thought about that before he dangerously dumped Wade Graham.

Now he can count himself damn lucky he only copped a week.
