MATCH RESULT:

Juventus take a priceless victory to Spain after securing a 2-1 win over Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, despite scoring an away goal, was very quiet tonight. Juventus regrouped well after Real enjoyed some strong periods but the game changed when Tevez was fouled as Juventus went on the counter attack.

Tevez then converted the penalty and the home side held on to secure the win.

Real only need a 1-0 victory next week to progress to the final. Juventus with any draw will progress.

A 3-2, 4-3 defeat will also see Juventus through on away goals.

FINAL SCORE:
Juventus 2
Real Madrid 1

Real Madrid’s title defence looks set for a stern test tonight as they face Serie A champions Juventus in the first leg of this Champions League semi-final. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:45am (AEST).

Juventus was demoted to Serie B several seasons back but they now find themselves among the Champions League elite for the first time since 2003.

On that occasion, Juventus upset Real Madrid of all teams to progress to a Champions League final against AC Milan, which they lost.

Although they struggled to dispatch Monaco in the quarter-finals, Juventus certainly possess the class to secure an important first-leg advantage against Real.

Without the talented Paul Pogba to call upon, Juventus will have to rely on the class of Andrea Pirlo to open up a Madrid defence that was not tested against Atletico Madrid.

The performance of Carlos Tevez will also have a big say in whether or not Juventus take a lead back to Spain. The Argentine striker is in career-best form and he will need to perform if Juventus hope to secure a priceless win.

Real meanwhile are in good form at the moment with James Rodriguez and Chicharito Hernandez impressing in attack for Los Blancos in recent weeks. Talisman Cristiano Ronaldo is also back to his best after scoring a hat-trick against Sevilla, and will be looking to make his mark against a Juventus defence that will rightfully be on full alert.

Here in Turin, Juventus can ill-afford to play for a nil-all draw. Atletico Madrid hardly created any clear-cut chances against Real over two legs and it cost them dearly in the quarter-finals. With this in mind, Juventus have to be more proactive with the football and ask questions of Real’s defence.

If Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Tevez are able to chip in with strong performances, Juventus have what it takes to secure a vital first leg win.

Juventus to win 1-0.
