Besart Berisha couldn’t have struck it any sweeter, nor can he remember feeling better about his own work.

The divisive striker, who left Brisbane Roar to join Melbourne Victory for the 2014-15 A-League season, said as much after steering his side to a 3-0 win over Sydney FC in Sunday’s final.

The hosts dominated from the outset at AAMI Park, but it wasn’t until the 33rd minute that it showed on the scoreboard.

That was thanks to Berisha, who showed exquisite control and immense power with an incredible volleyed goal.

Berisha, never one for norms, dispensed with the standard self-effacing cliches when summing up his super-strike.

“It was great,” Berisha said.

“It looked a little bit lucky of course. I have to say this, I don’t want to sound arrogant.

“I couldn’t have had a stronger hit. It was good turn and my first touch was really good.

“I was so happy, to score the first goal and score in a final.”

Berisha, who won two championships with the Roar, was delighted to have helped deliver Victory fans their first title since 2009.

“It was such a special moment and it’s getting better and better, I can’t describe it,” he said.

“It feels even better than the other goals.

“For me, there’s nothing better than to help this team achieve such great success.

“I’m so relieved and happy for fans.”
