Andrew Bogut’s role as an elite big-man defender has been recognised with the Australian making the NBA’s Defence squad on the second-team.

That recognition doesn’t always mean a payday – but Bogut’s rim protector status also comes with a handy bonus – a $US1.9 million payday for making the squad as part of his contract.

That actually may hurt the Golden State Warrior next season – with that next potential bonus of $1.8m to be deemed “likely to be achieved,” and therefore counting towards their salary cap for 2015-2016.

Depending on contract negotiations, Golden State will already likely be over the salary cap next season, meaning an expensive luxury tax payment will be required by the NBA.

Golden State owner Joe Lacob has already noted he’s willing to pay the likely prohibitive luxury tax costs to keep his league-best side together.
