The FFA has announced that the Newcastle Jets will seek a new coach for the 2015-16 A-League season.

Stubbins led the Jets to just three three wins in 27 games, taking the wooden spoon for the season.

His position looked increasingly untenable following a 0-7 thrashing at the hands of Adelaide, and after five senior players were sacked mid-season.

However, then owner Nathan Tinkler stuck by his coach and led a refresh of the Jets. The Jets failed to escape the bottom of the table.

The FFA official release runs below:

The Newcastle Jets will seek a new Head Coach for the 2015/16 season, Football Federation Australia (FFA) has announced today.

The decision to make a fresh start follows a review of the Newcastle Jets’ performance last season in relation to A-League benchmarks for technical, tactical, conditioning and sports science.

“Clearly, the Jets had a difficult season and this was reflected in the position on the A-League table,” said Head of A-League, Damien de Bohun.

“But this decision is also driven by the desire in the Newcastle football community for a new beginning with the new club.”

The decision means that the Head Coach of the old club Phil Stubbins will not be a part of the new club’s staff.

“Phil is a decent football man and we wish him all the best with the next stage of his career,” said Damien de Bohun.

FFA said the new Head Coach would be given the primary role of selecting his coaching staff. The assistant coaches of the old club, Mark Jones and James Pascoe, and goalkeeper coach Jess Vanstrattan, will not go across to the new club at this stage.

Last Wednesday, FFA revoked the A-League licence held by Newcastle Jets Football Operations Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Hunter Sports Group (HSG). A new licence was issued to a new FFA-controlled entity, which will represent Northern NSW in the A-League as the Newcastle Jets.
