Leading into the French Open, Stosur proved her form was good by taking out the Strasbourg title in France. The tournament was played on clay, and Stosur managed to take out her seventh WTA singles Tournament.

Now in her 11th French Open, Stosur’s stats at Rolland Garros are the most impressive out of all the grand slams, although the exception of the US Open must be mentioned in which she has won are her best at a Grand Slam. In the French Open, Stosur has made the semifinals twice and lost the final once, finishing runner up in 2010.

Stosur’s first round match up was against American Maddison Brengle, winning in straight sets and only dropping four games in the process. It was a dominant display from Stosur and she will be hoping for something of a similar nature in this match against Hesse.

Wildcard entry Amandine Hesse, currently ranked 296th in the world has been in decent form coming into the French Open, all be it in much smaller tournaments against lower ranked and much lesser known players. In saying that it must be noted that many of Hesse’s recent wins have come against players that have a higher world ranking than her.

Hesse has never taken out a WTA career title, whilst Stosur has won 7. Hesse however does have a better than 50% career winning record.

This is Hesse’s second French open and third grand slam singles title, however she has never moved out of the first round.

Her first round match at the French Open was against Australian Jarmila Gajdosova and it was a much unexpected win for Hesse. After dropping the first set, she was dominant and won the final two sets dropping just 5 games.

The pair have never faced off, so they will have little knowledge of each other. Stosur however does have quite a height advantage over Hesse.

PREDICTION: Stosur realistically should win this game quite easily. Hesse has been in decent form, but Stosur should have the experience and skills, particularly on clay where she has performed quite well to win convincingly.
