The first try scorer of Game 1 of the 2015 State of Origin series was Cooper Cronk for the Queensland Maroons.

After being gifted the experience of watching Shannon Noll rock his way through the Rose Tattoo classic ‘We Can’t Be Beaten’, a packed house at ANZ Stadium in Sydney were presented with some tense opening minutes.

After a Daniel Tupou fumble while emerging from a scrum, Queensland were gifted the ball and made a strong play, resulting in what Maroons fans believed was the opening try when Billy Slater slipped through a flurry of Blues and got one hand, and downward pressure, on a dribbling ball.

That try was denied by the video referee after it was deemed that Slater pushed Trent Hodkinson while making his way to the ball.

Just a few minutes later, Queensland would again be on the attack, and quickly rewarded with the opening try of the match from Cooper Cronk, who scored just his third Origin try.
