Australian goalkeeper Adam Federici is set to return to the English Premier League after reportedly inking a three-year deal with Bournemouth.

Federici will end his decade-long tenure with Reading to join the newly promoted Championship-winning side in time for next season on a free transfer.

According to media reports in the UK, Southampton had also expressed in securing the services of the 30-year-old gloveman, who still needs to have his medical before the Bournemouth deal is confirmed.

When it is, he’ll be busy competing for the No.1 jersey with veteran Polish shot-stopper Artur Boruc, who has also just agreed to a one-year contract with the club.

It makes for a positive end to Federici’s season, during which he was in strong form but also made unwanted headlines during a humiliating FA Cup howler.

After playing a key part in Reading’s progression to a semi-final with Arsenal, Federici let a tame extra-time shot from Alexis Sanchez slip out of his hands and between his legs.

The mistake allowed the Gunners to prevail 2-1 and left the Australian inconsolable, prompting fans to rally around him.

Federici competed with Reading in the 2012-13 Premier League season, before the side was relegated after one year back in the top tier.

This week he was overlooked for Australia’s World Cup qualifying opener in Kyrgyzstan next month, with Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou opting for Eugene Galekovic, Mitchell Langerak and Mat Ryan as his goalkeepers.
