Andy Murray will be looking to make his fifth quarter final at the French Open when he faces Jeremy Chardy tonight in the fourth round.

Join The Roar for live scores of the match from 8:30pm AEST.

After defeating Australian Nick Kyrgios, in the third round, Murray will be looking to defeat an opponent he only played a few weeks ago in Rome.

In that match, after winning the Madrid Masters, Murray fought off fatigue to comfortably defeat Chardy in straight sets.

He would subsequently withdraw from the event to prepare for here. Over two weeks later, they will meet again, with Chardy in better form than that match.

The Frenchman, who has slipped from 29 to 45 in the rankings this year, is currently on his best run at his home Grand Slam.

His fourth round run repeats the same achievement he did in 2008 when he defeated David Nalbandian on the way to his first second week appearance at a Grand Slam evet.

A win tonight would equal his best run at a Grand Slam. He made the quarters of the Australian Open in 2013.

His 2015 French Open so far has been a good one as he defeated two seeds on the way to today.

In the second round he defeated 16th seed, John Isner, and followed that up with a win over David Goffin, the 17th seed.

Tonight is a tougher challenge though and Chardy has struggled against his Brit rival. In seven matches between the two, Murray has won six of them. The only time Chardy has defeated Murray was at the Cincinnati Masters in 2012.

In those seven head to head matches Chardy has only won three sets. Hardly good form heading into a match for a quarter final spot.

Chardy’s problem, as illustrated in the match against Kyrgios on Saturday, is that Murray loves to counter punch whatever power his rival has.

Chardy, who uses a lot of power, struggles to hit winners as Murray’s fitness allows him to punch back with multiple shots.

The Frenchman, like others who have played Murray, then use more power to try to win points but create more unforced errors in the process.

The focus for Chardy will be to attack Murray’s second serve, which isn’t great, and try to hit winners with his power without conceding plenty of unforced errors.

Murray looks to have Chardy’s measure tonight but the former world number 25 can trouble his rivals. Chardy may win a set, or two, tonight but Murray will be a big favourite to progress.

PREDICTION – Murray 3-0
