An all American battle hits the Phillipe Chartier court in the fourth round of the 2015 French Open, when first seed Serena Williams takes on Sloane Stephens.

Find out who will move onto the Quarter Finals when The Roar brings you live scores of this game from around 10pm (AEST) following the finish of the suspended Monfils versus Federer game.

Interestingly for Williams, she has won 19 grand slams and only two of them were in France. The further she goes into the tournament the more keen she will be to resurrect that record.

After winning her first match in a canter in straight sets against Andrea Hlavackova, only dropping five games over the two sets, Williams has been placed under a little bit more pressure in her second and third round games.

In the second round she was pitted against Anna Lena Friedsam. After getting a scare losing the first set 7-5, she managed to bounce back and win the next two sets, both to the tune of 6-3. Dropping the first set was less than ideal for Williams, but she will be happy with how she was able to bounce back in the final two sets.

In the third round she was up against 27th seed Victoria Azarenka. Again Williams dropped the first set 6-3 and looked in trouble before bouncing back to win the final two sets 6-4, 6-2. As the quality of opposition gets higher and higher Williams can ill afford to keep losing the first set.

Stephens, incredibly, has been knocked out in the fourth round of the French Open in her last three attempts at the event. She has never managed to go further and will be keen to do so this evening.

Stephens has had things a lot easier than Williams has so far at the French Opens, winning all three of her games in straight sets.

Her first round match was arguably the most tricky of the lot when she played Serena’s sister Venus Williams who was the 15th seed. After winning the first set in a tie breaker, she was dominant afterwards winning the second set 6 games to 1.

Following the win against Venus, she has had a pair of straight sets victories. In these two games she only dropped 11 games in four sets against Heather Watson and Tsvetana Pironkova. Dominant displays from Stephens will be giving her massive confidence coming into this game against the world number 1.

The pair have previously faced off four times, in which Williams holds the lead by three matches to one. The last time they met, and the only time on clay was earlier this season in Madrid where Serena Williams had a dominating straight sets victory, only dropping four games from the two sets along the way.

They have also met twice in grand slams, both in 2013. At the Australian Open in the quarter finals, Sloane Stephens knocked Williams out in three sets, before Williams knocked Stephens out of fourth round at the US open in straight sets later that year.

The betting odds sees Williams flying ahead, paying just $1.14, and it’s hard to bet against her as the current world number one.

PREDICTION: Williams should be good enough to overcome Stephens, who although being in good form will struggle to match it with Williams. She should be good enough to win a set though.
