For the fourth straight time at Wimbledon, Richard Gasquet will face an Australian at the All England Club in a main draw match. Join The Roar for live scores of Luke Saville versus Gasquet from around 12:30am (AEST).

After facing James Duckworth and Nick Kyrgios last year, in the first two rounds, Gasquet now faces South Australian Luke Saville this year in the opening round.

Last year’s matches against the Australians were drama packed.

Duckworth had a two sets to one lead before losing 12 of the last 13 games the Frenchman.

Kyrgios, in the second round, would then come back from two sets to love down, to win 10-8 in the final set.

The Aussie would save an incredible nine match points on his way to the win and a quarter final appearance.

Now Luke Saville will look to complete his own piece of drama with an upset win over the 21st seed.

In fact, after his qualifying performances, he has already created plenty of drama amongst the Aussies at Wimbledon.

After winning the first two rounds in straight sets, against Nicolas Jarry and Thiemo de Bakker, Saville was in deep trouble in the final round against Luca Vanni. He was down two sets to love, and almost out against the Italian.

What followed was an amazing comeback by the South Australian.

He would survive break points in the third set to take it 6-3.

Then he saved a match point in the tiebreaker, and took the fourth set, to hand the Aussie the momentum.

Saville would then break in the final set to qualify for Wimbledon for the second successive year.

His emotion after the match, which is illustrated below, showed just how much the win meant to the Australian.

Now he has to focus and attempt to repeat his second round effort from Wimbledon last year.

That tough looks to be hard against Gasquet.

The Frenchman is a former semi-finalist at Wimbledon, and has won an ATP world tour title in Estoril this year.

He also made the fourth round at the French Open and made the second round at Queens losing to Milos Raonic.

His best will be too good for Saville but he didn’t show that last year at Wimbledon.

Both Aussies troubled him at times and Saville can do the same. His favourite surface is grass and he lifts his game on the surface. He won’t be deterred by the occasion and will give everything he has.

If he is to win he needs to serve well. He struggled against Vanni early in the match with his serve, and almost lost to the Italian.

He needs plenty of free points against the Frenchman.

Saville also needs to attack Gasquet’s forehand.

The backhand of the Frenchman is one of the best in the game, and he will punish the South Australian if he plays poor shots to that side of Gasquet.

This match will be closer than people think. Gasquet will still win but the Aussie will trouble him at times.

Saville will give a good account for himself but fall short of the upset.

Prediction: Gasquet 3-1
