Jose Aldo has pulled out of the UFC 189 main event against Conor McGregor, and will be replaced by number-two featherweight Chad Mendes.

Featherweight champion Jose Aldo suffered a rib injury during training, and the extent of the damage was unclear.

The UFC came up with a contingency plan just incase Aldo was forced out of the bout.

Aldo has now pulled out of the fight and now that contingency plan will be put into action.

Mendes has been vocal about his desire to fight McGregor, and now he will finally get to do so.

Mendes’ only two professional losses have come at the hands of Jose Aldo.

Conor McGregor is undefeated in the UFC and is coming off a second-round TKO win over Dennis Siver.

UFC 189 will also see welterweight champion Robbie Lawler take on Rory MacDonald for the second time.
