Wimbledon wildcard and Australian Matthew Ebden will clash with world record holder for the longest grand slam game ever and 17th seed from the United States of America John Isner in what could be an interesting game.

Join The Roar from around 10pm (AEST) following the Pliskova vs Vandeweghe match for live scores of this clash.

Ultimately, you feel like this game will be a one-sided affair, despite all the promise Ebden has shown in the past.

The pair have in fact faced off once before with the 27-year-old Australian falling by the wayside in a fourth round clash at Indian Wells during 2012. Isner won that match rather dominantly, 6-4, 7-5.

The big-serving American is on his favourite surface, and has all the weapons to go deep in this tournament. 2015 could be the year we see that promise fulfilled. Isner’s first round victory over Go Soeda was a straight sets white wash and he would have been over the moon with his performance. There is however, little form to speak of for Isner in the lead up to Wimbledon, playing in just the single tournament and being bowled out by Viktor Troiki.

What Isner really won’t be happy with is his history at Wimbledon, a third round exit last year being his best attempt in six cracks at the biggest grand slam of them all.

Ebden is a bit of a journeyman by comparison, but will no doubt fight hard to counter against the big weapons of his opponent. It will be tough, and he will have to get on top mentally if he is to be any chance.

Ebden has actually been in quite good form leading up to Wimbledon all be it against lower ranking opponents than what he will face in a grand slam, the only match he has lost coming in a final.

Ebden has been to Wimbledon three times before and never got past the first round so this in it self is a new experience for him. He has made the second round at the Australian Open and the US Open before however.

Prediction: Isner has a far superior skill set to Ebden, particularly on grass. His ranking is testament to this, not to mention the fairly large experience gap he has. Ebden’s best surface is also the grass, but Isner isn’t a slouch on the grass either and shouldn’t have too much trouble advancing to the fourth round. I still expect Ebden to pinch a set.

Isner in four sets.
