Match result:

Nick Kyrgios has defeated Juan Monaco in straight sets to make the 3rd round for the 2nd time in two years.

KYRGIOS 7 6 6
MONACO 6 3 4

After a sluggish first set, which was still won by the Aussie, Kyrgios dominated the contest to easily defeat his Argentinian opponent.

Battling hay fever, and a head ache, Kyrgios struggled to get into the game in the opening set.

At 6-5, this changed, as Kyrgios got into a confrontation with the chair umpire.

During the 11th game, Kyrgios muttered -using language – that is head was sore.

While he didn’t get in trouble, as the linesman talked to the chair umpire, he did talk to the chair umpire and have a serious discussion with him.

This seemed to kick start the Canberra player as he lifted a gear to hold serve and take the first set in a tiebreaker.

Kyrgios would then break early in the final two sets, and use his serve to win the contest.

He got taken to deuce once in the match, and did not concede a break point.

The Aussie also served 16 aces.

The task now gets harder for Kyrgios with a third round meeting against Milos Raonic.

He is 0-2 against the Canadian and lost a meeting at Wimbledon last year in the quarters.

That match will take place on Friday.

Unfortunately for Kyrgios, after an impressive straight sets win over Diego Schwartzman, his off court antics created almost all of the media attention.

The words ‘dirty scum’ were muttered by Nick Kyrgios after an argument with the chair umpire following a point that was awarded to the Argentinian.

Kyrgios argued that because the call of out by a linesman occurred as he was hitting the shot, and the subsequent out shot from Nick was because of the call, the point should have resulted in a replay and not a win to Schwartzman.

The chair umpire ruled the other way and Kyrgios was furious the replay wasn’t given.

Kyrgios is intent the words were muttered in relation to him. Whether he is telling the truth or not will remain a mystery.

That incident overshadowed what was an impressive opening round match against Schwarztman. Kyrgios was brutal against the Argentinian and blew him off the court with his power.

He hit 32 winners and served 12 aces in the 1 hour and 25 minute win If he plays like that throughout the tournament then he will be hard to beat.

Unfortunately though he almost had a lapse in the third set, after the incident, and conceded the set to Schwarztman.

Kyrgios was able to hold on and progress to tonight’s match against Monaco. Monaco, who defeated Florian Mayer in the 1st round, is now a veteran of the sport at 31 years of age.

The former top ten player has made the 3rd round here in 2012 and 2013 and will be looking to repeat that against Kyrgios.

Grass isn’t his favourite surface – with clay being his best – but he can play well on it and trouble players. His forehand is strong and he is defensive from the baseline. He likes to make opponents make mistakes.

This suits Kyrgios down to the ground who will try to blast Monaco off the court with his power. The Canberra native should have no problems defeating Monaco tonight.

His serve is strong, his forehand is powerful, and he will make Monaco run around the baseline a lot tonight. That will hurt Monaco eventually and Kyrgios will move on to Round 3 as he looks to repeat his quarter final effort from last year.

Prediction – Kyrgios 3-1
