Former world number 2 and Wimbledon semi finalist and journeyman from Germany, 37 year old Tommy Haas will take on the Canadian young gun Milos Raonic who is looking to equal his semi final appearance from last year in what should be a fascinating second round match up.

Join The Roar for live scores from 10pm (AEST) as they play the first match on the Number 1 court for day three.

Tommy Haas has been going around since the last century, turning professional in 1996. He reached a career high of second in the world rankings but has now dropped away to 848th. He made his Wimbledon debut in 1997 and despite making the semi finals in 2009 which is his best performance, has never made it out of the fourth round in all of his other 14 attempts.

Haas’ form in the lead up to Wimbledon was very mixed, however he probably would prefer to be doing better than what he is with losses Stuttgart and Halle early in the tournaments.

Haas had a four-set win in his first round match over Dusan Lajovic and was dominant in recording the win. There is no question his level of experience plays a massive role in helping him over the line.

Raonic’s first round match up was against Daniel Gimeno-Traver in what was a four-set win, however it was nowhere near as comfortable as he would have liked. Being the seventh seed comes with plenty of pressure for Raonic, and for a brief moment it had looked like the pressure had overcome him.

Certainly his form of late has not been great. With only the one tournament on grass, where he had wins against James Ward and Richard Gasquet followed by a loss to Gilles Simon in the third round, it doesn’t make for impressive reading. Raonic won’t be filled with a great deal of confidence.

Not only does being seventh seed bring pressure, but so does being in last year’s semi finals of Wimbledon. Can he live up to those expectations and results again? It would appear possibly not at this stage.

The pair have faced off once before, which came in a final at San Jose in 2013 on the hard court. Raonic won that one in straight sets and will be hoping to do the same again tonight when they meet on the grass court for the first time.

Prediction: Raonic needs to end this game quickly. Haas has all sorts of experience on his side, and despite his age if it get’s to a fifth set I would say Haas’ experience will pull him over the line. Raonic however is the favourite and rightfully so.

Raonic in four sets.
