Ablett to make long-awaited return this weekend

Captain Gary Ablett has given Gold Coast some desperately needed good news, returning to the AFL for the first time since round two.

The two-time Brownlow Medallist is among four changes for Saturday’s home game against North Melbourne.

Ablett’s teammate David Swallow, North ruck-forward Majak Daw, Melbourne young gun Jesse Hogan and Geelong star Jimmy Bartel are other prominent inclusions for round 14.

But the Western Bulldogs have lost key forward Tom Boyd with knee soreness for Saturday’s match against Carlton.

Ablett has been out of action with shoulder soreness, a legacy of last year’s season-ending injury.

Swallow, winner of last year’s club best-and-fairest award, has been sidelined since round four with a knee injury.

The Suns are last on the ladder and also struggling with massive off-field problems.

Their latest drama involves the publication of photos that allegedly show player Harley Bennell taking illicit drugs two years ago.

Bennell is out of their side this weekend, with the club listing the cause as “wellbeing”.

Keegan Brooksby and Aaron Hall are the other omissions, while Andrew Raines and Sean Lemmens have been dropped and Jarrod Harbrow has an ankle injury.
