With all the hype surrounding Chad Mendes and Conor McGregor, mixed martial arts fans are forgetting that the UFC welterweight title will be defended on the same night.

Robbie Lawler is set put his title on the line against Rory MacDonald in UFC 189’s co-main event.

The title fight will be a rematch between the two welterweights, who last locked horns back in November 2013 at UFC 167.

Robbie Lawler won the tightly contested affair via a split decision.

Lawler insists that he will be looking for a more decisive win the second time around.

“I want to go out there and finish people” he said.

“I don’t want to go out there and leave it up to the judges.

“I want to get in that space and either give a submission or knock somebody out”.

However, Lawler says he won’t be looking at the last fight, and will be concentrating on bettering his own skills so he can stop MacDonald.

“I’m not too worried about who I’m fighting as much as I’m worried about how I can grow” he said.

“The last fight didn’t really matter, July 11 is the only date that matters.

“I concentrate on getting my mind stronger and so I can go in there on July 11 and beat somebody up”.

Lawler’s impressive return to MMA has culminated in a UFC belt, and after putting his rough patch behind him he feels he doesn’t have anything to prove to the public.

“I’m self-motivated” he said.

“I don’t need people to doubt me for me to get up and work hard everyday.

“All my training partners who helped me out along the way, that’s who I’m doing this for.

“I want to put a stamp on this fight”.
