An upset appears to be well on the cards in the fourth round of the women’s main draw at Wimbledon 2015 when 5th seed Caroline Wozniacki takes on 20th seed from Spain Garbine Muguruza.

Wozniacki will be feeling the heat when she takes on Muguruza this evening. After an early second-round exit in the French Open earlier this year, she has not being living up to what her world ranking and seed would suggest in recent matches. Muguruza has a good record on Wozniacki, so the pressure will be on her to put in a good performance and get herself into the quarter finals at Wimbledon.

Wozniacki hasn’t been in horrific form of late, but copped an injury at a tournament in Eastbourne and that will worry her coming into this match.

Her first three matches have however been impressive all resulting in straight-set victories. Her third round match against Camila Giorgi was particularly impressive as she only dropped four games across the two sets in a 6-2, 6-2 victory. However, her fourth round match will provide a much tougher challenge.

Muguruza was not in great form either in the lead up to Wimbledon, losing games she should have been winning against players who were much more lowly ranked. However since the Championships started she has been playing really good tennis, including a win against the 10th seed Angelique Kerber in the third round. Whilst it took three sets to win it was a hard fought game and she held her nerve to dominate the third set.

There is a large experience gap between the players for this match, with Wozniacki having participated in eight Wimbledon tournaments however it is by far her worst grand slam. She has never made the quarter finals there with a series of fourth round exits, which could continue this year.

Muguruza meanwhile has only played at Wimbledon on two occasions, having a second round exit as her best performance. She has however made the quarter finals at Rolland Garros twice so she does know what it takes to get out of the fourth round.

Interestingly the players have matched up on three previous occasions and Muguruza using her awesome aggression has won two of the matches. In saying that they have never played on the grass courts, but an aggressive game plan should suit the grass courts down to the ground for Muguruza. Their only Grand Slam match came in Australia last year, with Wozniacki winning in three sets. Murugurza has won the other two match ups, one in straight sets and one in three.

Prediction: Whilst Wozniacki is favoured to advance to the quarter finals, her form for mine just isn’t good enough and Murugurza’s aggressive playing style could well put Wozniacki off her own game.

Muguruza in three sets.
