The loss of Phil Walsh was devastating, and the respect shown by all teams – starting with Hawks and Magpies arm-in-arm at fulltime – was one of the most respectable and honourable things to happen in the AFL for a long time.

Hawks versus Magpies
The Hawks pushed themselves in to the top four with an ugly win over the Magpies. The Hawks still don’t look their best, but need to be there soon if they want to make it three in a row.

Collingwood had an honourable loss, but can you have two honourable losses in a row? I think so – this season they have improved more then most would have expected. They won’t make the finals, but watch out for them next year.

Suns versus North
Most would think the returning Gary Ablett would need a week or two to get back up and running. Instead it took a half game – his three goals and 31 disposals showed he still is the AFL’s best player.

But the win cannot be just put at Ablett’s feet, with the win a team effort. Now can they back it up against the Dogs?

North are the rollercoaster team of the season, with great win against top-eight teams, but then loses against Port and the Suns. Can they make the eight? At this rate, no.

Dogs versus Blues
The Bulldogs had to fight hard to win a tough game against an improving team, and in doing so showed they are a team to worry about come the finals.

The Blues are heading in the right direction. John Barker has them working well together, and Dylan Buckley’s goal has to be one of the round’s best. If Barker does not get the top job at the end of the year, any other team would be happy to have him as an assistant, if not the senior coach next year.

Saints versus Bombers
The Saints have been flying under the radar this year, but they are heading in the right direction. I just hope Saints fans can be patient, as I don’t see them making final this year or 2016, but 2017 could see them back in the top eight.

Bombers fans don’t want to hear this, but they need to close the book on the James Hird experiment and get in someone else. John Barker may be available if the Blues don’t want him.
