Crystal Palace have signed former Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye from French champions Paris Saint-Germain for a club record £10 million.

Cabaye joins Alan Pardew’s side on a three-year deal, with his fee potentially rising to £13 million with add-ons.

Cabaye returned to France last January and joined PSG from Newcastle for £19 million, but started only 13 games in 17 months at the Parc Des Princes. The midfielder was often forced to watch from the sidelines as PSG secured the French treble.

Cabaye was deemed to be surplus to requirements in Paris but is nevertheless rejuvenated to be returning to the Premier League and believes that Crystal Palace can contend for a top eight finish next season.

Speaking to the club’s official website Cabaye gave his reaction to the deal.

“I’m happy to be here,” he said.

“I wanted to come and play for Palace because there are some really strong players here. They finished very well last season and I think they can compete to get into the top eight.

“I also know the gaffer and have worked with him before and I’m confident with him.”

The fee for Cabaye eclipses Palace’s previous record transfer, £7 million paid to Wigan for James McArthur last summer, as the Eagles look to build on their 10th place finish last season and push on into the top eight.
