Australian hope Brazen Beau has finished seventh in the July Cup at Newmarket, the final race of his career.

The prestigious sprint was won by three-year-old Muhaarar, the 2-1 equal favourite with Brazen Beau who is owned by the race’s sponsor Darley Stud.

Muhaarar won the inaugural Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot where Brazen Beau finished a fine second in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

Last year’s runner-up in the 1207 metres at Newmarket, Tropics blazed the early trail in his quest to go one better, with Brazen Beau, Astaire and Eastern Impact all sitting close on his heels.

But Brazen Beau could not pick up over the final stages with Muhaarar hitting top gear to nail Tropics by a nose.

Brazen Beau will now enter quarantine and return to Australia to stand at Darley’s Northwood Park in Victoria in the spring.
