Shane Watson has reportedly been dropped for the second Ashes Test starting at Lord’s on Thursday.

The 34-year-old, who has struggled for form with both the bat and ball, will be replaced by Mitchell Marsh.

After 59 Tests, Watson’s dumping for a man more than ten years his junior could very well spell the end of his career at Test level.

Australian wicketkeeper, Brad Haddin, will also miss the second Test due to family reasons.

Haddin has not been dropped and will remain with the team in London. It is unclear at this stage whether he will take part in the upcoming Tests.

NSW Blues keeper, Peter Nevill, will make his Australian debut with the gloves in place of Haddin.

It will be a tough debut for Nevill, with the sloping pitch at Lord’s notorious for being difficult to keep.

Mitchell Starc’s troublesome ankle is being closely monitored in the lead up to Day 1, but it is expected he will start. Peter Siddle is on standby as a replacement.
