Adverse weather conditions, amendments to the playing schedule and a crowded leader board sums up the first three days of the British Open. But after overcoming all the obstacles, we’re all set for a thrilling finish. Join The Roar for live updates of the final round from 8:00pm (AEST).

Three shots separate 14 players on the leader board. It includes amateur Paul Dunne on -12, along with Louis Oosthuizen and Australia’s top ranked golfer Jason Day.

Jordan Spieth is one shot behind on -11 while two time open champion, Padraig Harrington is -10. They are followed by a pack of nine players all on -9, that includes Aussies, Mark Leishman and Adam Scott.

Overcast conditions with brief showers are predicted throughout Monday meaning the fairways and the greens will not emulate the traditional ‘fast’ conditions witnessed in the final rounds.

The wind is likely to play a crucial role with the forecast predicting mild winds. With quite forgiving greens and calm conditions, birdies could be the order of the final round.

It might have taken Spieth a few holes to shrug of the frustrations of the stop start days on the weekend, but we saw the best of his in the final nine holes he played. He won The Masters from in front and won the US Open when trailing by a couple of shots.

He knows how to win on the final day, so it’s hard to go past Spieth when looking for a winner today.

Jason Day was the leader at the US Open on the final day but he was clearly distressed by illness. Now he is fit and after being in the top five on numerous occasions you sense this could be his time.

To win he has to overcome the back nine jitters he seems to suffer when finishing majors.

Louis Oosthuizen, the winner at St Andrews, has been so calm and composed this week, even managing to laugh at the adverse conditions. He missed two putts inside four feet on Sunday, so if he can eliminate those mistakes he might just be the man to lift the trophy.

As a roughie, Padrick Harrington, a two time Open winner, is the pick of the bunch. If the conditions change and the wind picks up in the evening, his experience might just see lift the claret jug.

Prediction:
I’m expecting a close finish between Day and Spieth. The American’s form and his experience of winning on the final day might just see him in the record books once again.
