Michael Clarke and Adam Voges both fell to a teenage debutant as Australia reached 3-253 at tea on day one of their clash with Derbyshire.

David Warner and Shaun Marsh shared a 154-run opening partnership in Derby on Thursday, when Clarke won the toss.

Warner picked up where he left off at Lord’s, celebrating his first ton on the Ashes tour before retiring on 101 off 108 balls.

Marsh was more cautious in his unbeaten knock of 93, scored off 168 deliveries.

Neither batsman was troubled by Derbyshire’s trundlers.

The same can’t be said of Clarke and Voges.

Clarke, who has posted scores of 38, four, seven and 32no in the Ashes, managed 16 off 37 balls in Derby.

He was out edging to paceman Will Davis, who has figures of 2-32 off 11 overs on first-class debut.

Voges then lasted five balls before he was trapped lbw by Davis.

Marsh is likely to open at Edgbaston if Chris Rogers fails to prove his fitness before the third Test starts on Wednesday.

Rogers is undergoing further tests on his vestibular system, having retired hurt on day four of the second Test due to an alarming dizzy spell.

The main point of interest in the three-day match will be the ‘keep-off’ between Peter Nevill and Brad Haddin.

Haddin, who withdrew from the second Ashes Test due to family reasons, is set to share wicketkeeping duties with Nevill in this match.

Pacemen Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, offspinner Nathan Lyon and in-form batsman Steve Smith were rested from the fixture.
