The crucial cogs of AFL's Round 7: Which players need to be the difference makers?
We’re taking a look at one player from each team that needs to make a difference this week, starting with the ANZAC Day games.
Be careful what you say because it could bite you in the bum
Last year Matthew Lloyd wrote off Cyril and made himself look dumb
You see, Cyril had had a quiet game just the week before
But then Hawthorn played the Tigers and he left us all in awe.
This time Cyril had a ripper and the critics could not be found
As he lifted in the third term and was top-ranked player on the ground
How was it possible that Lloydy could have got it so wrong
When our marvellous magician was so deliciously on song?
It was Burgoyne and Sam’s two-fiftieth and what a game they had
Sam played an awesome game but said his effort was “not too bad”
Burgers finished with 24 disposals and kicked a stunning goal
He was silky and efficient and, as always, gave his heart and soul.
There was a bit of drama when Gibbo made contact with Conca’s head
In an attempt to spoil Gibbo unfortunately collected him instead
Astbury kept Roughie quiet and one goal was all he kicked
Riewoldt tried hard in attack but Hawthorn had all the boxes ticked.
Tigers captain Trent Cotchin was red-hot in the opening term
So Clarko unleashed Will Langford and made poor Cotchin squirm
In the final quarter the Hawks piled on eight goals to one
And when the siren finally went, for the Hawks the job was done.
These past weeks have been awesome and while we’d like to see it last
I reckon the Tigers will be ready and they’ll be coming out quite fast
This round could just prove much tougher than any of us might expect
But the Hawks will not stop fighting when there’s four points to collect!

Round 5 of the AFL provided plenty of action, from big scorelines to upset wins and pressure starting to build on some clubs and coaches already.
Collingwood premiership defender Nathan Murphy has been forced into a premature and immediate AFL retirement through concussion to prioritise a "full and healthy life"…
Geelong has been crafty and creative in its list management and has quietly assembled a very exciting young group of midfielders and half-forwards.
Brisbane co-captain Lachie Neale will be looking to lead his team to a victory against Melbourne in what will be his 250th AFL game.
It’s high stakes with five teams having lost their first three games of season 2024, and in desperate need of a win.
