How about Manly for the NRL finals?

Geoff Toovey was sacked for failing to make the finals with Manly, could he come back as an assistant? (AAP Image/Paul Miller)

Even Manly haters would salute Geoff Toovey if he can coach the injury-battered Sea Eagles into the finals.

Having been so shabbily treated by the Manly hierarchy, Toovey has shown what a class act he is by sticking to his guns and firmly believing his troops can fire at the business end of the NRL season.

And the troops want to do just that, not only for themselves as professional footballers, but as tangible support for their sacked coach.

As for the fans, who are genuinely angry a club legend could be so shamefully booted, they will turn out in droves at Brookvale to offer real support to the little man.

Manly’s bid to qualify started with that 30-point hammering of the table-topping Broncos last round.

As I see it, the Cowboys will end up minor premiers. Currently on 34 points, the Cowboys should beat the Sharks away and the Rabbitohs at home, possibly lose to the Warriors away, and beat the Storm away and Titans at home.

Cowboys 42 points.

The Broncos are currently on 34 points and should beat the Bulldogs and Dragons at home, lose to the Roosters and Rabbitohs both away, and beat the Storm at home.

Broncos 40 points.

The Roosters are currently on 30 points and expected to beat the Knights away, the Eels at home, Broncos away, Manly away, and the Rabbitohs at home.

Roosters 40 points.

The Rabbitohs are currently on 28 points. Manly will win at Brookvale, and the Cowboys win away, then the Bunnies will beat the Bulldogs and Broncos at home, before losing to the Roosters away.

Rabbitohs 32 points.

The Sharks, currently on 26 points, to lose to the Cowboys and Storm at home, beat the Tigers at home and Eels away, and lose to Manly at home.

Sharks 30 points.

The Storm, currently on 24 points, to beat the Titans at home, Sharks away, Knights at home, but lose to the Cowboys at home, and the Broncos away.

Storm 30 points.

Then it gets really interesting.

The Raiders, currently on 20 points, to beat the Tigers at home, lose to Manly at home, beat the Titans away, Panthers at home, and Eels away.

Raiders 28 points.

Bulldogs, currently on 22 points, to lose to the Broncos away, beat the Titans at home, lose to the Rabbitohs away, beat the Knights away and Warriors at home.

Bulldogs 28 points.

And Manly, currently on 20 points, to beat the Rabbitohs at home, Raiders away, and Eels at home, lose to the Roosters at home, and beat the Sharks away.

Manly 28 points.

So the last two finals berths to be decided by for and against between the Raiders, Bulldogs, and Manly.

I have the Dragons and Warriors missing out by two points, and the Panthers by four.
