Manly have backed up their memorable win against the ladder leading Brisbane Broncos with an impressive victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The Sea Eagles’ hardy defence and exciting attack proved too much for the seemingly unmotivated Bunnies, who were never really in the game, losing by a hefty 20 points.

What seemed a fair game on paper turned into a maroon-and-white onslaught. The crowd of over 15,000 got their money’s worth as they were entertained by with line-breaks and tries galore.

The point-scoring began in the fifth minute off an Adam Reynolds penalty goal. Manly crossed the line just three minutes later as a result of some fancy footwork from young front rower Jake Trbojevic.

Soon after Manly found the line again off a beautiful pass from Brett Stewart to an enthusiastic Peta Hiku. Hiku followed this up with a second try shortly before halftime, giving the Sea Eagles a 12-point lead at the break.

After failing to capitalise on various try scoring opportunities to start the second half, things finally clicked as Hiku crossed for a well deserved third try. As well as three tries, the Kiwi winger finished with three line breaks, 216 metres run and 16 tackles, proving he is back in form after struggling over the past month.

Later, Trbojevic battled his way to the line for the first double of his career, capping off a remarkable game for the big rookie which included 135 running metres.

The final points of the game came as Souths’ star winger Alex Johnson crossed for a consolation four pointer, converted by Reynolds from the sideline.

The finals score was Manly 28-8 South Sydney.

Manly have now won five of their past six, and are now arguably the most dangerous side in the competition. Depending on scores this weekend, they could find themselves in the top eight come Monday night.
