Match Result

Tonight Collingwood’s hopes of making the 2015 finals series were dashing with a 13.9.87 to 10.16.76 loss to the Swans at the SCG. It was a game that at times lacked flair and conviction with attacking moves with both sides over use of the handball a frustration throughout the first half.

The game opened up in the second half and it was the Swans who were able to make the most of their chances with the Magpies squandering some key opportunities either side of three quarter time and late in the final term. Luke Parker looks like he will miss the rest of the season after going down in the final quarter following a tackle from Taylor Adams, it looked like Parker had broken a bone in his leg and he was stretchered from the field following the incident.

Nathan Brown will also come under scrutiny from the match review panel after catching Parker high early in the game and being reported on the ground. Despite being down on rotations and looking like they were going to be run over the Swans held tough and won the game, ultimately they hold down a top four spot but what they lose in Parker makes tonight a disaster.

Collingwood will rue their missed opportunities in the loss, but there was some bright signs with some of their youngsters standing up in the loss.

Match Preview

The Sydney Swans will be out to keep their top-four aspirations alive when they host a Collingwood Magpies side playing for their season. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7:40pm (AEST).

The Swans were disappointing against the Cats last week, with Dan Hanneberry and Luke Parker having quiet nights in Geelong. They don’t often under-perform two weeks in a row, so expect them to bounce back this week.

However Lance Franklin is out again through injury.

Perhaps one advantage for the Swans is that this game is being played at the SCG instead of ANZ Stadium, with Collingwood winning three of their last four at the Homebush stadium.

It is do or die for the Magpies, who currently sit 11th but are still a mathematical chance to make finals if they can win their remaining fixtures.

Collingwood may be bolstered up forward, with Travis Cloke looking like he could make his return to face Sydney. Dane Swan was a big part of last week’s win, with 41 disposals and a couple of goals against Carlton.

The last time these two sides met Scott Pendlebury was the difference, with the Collingwood captain finishing with 33 disposals, one goal and 10 tackles.

The Swans’ recent form hasn’t been good, losing three of their last four matches, with two by more than 50 points, while the Magpies have won only one of their last seven.

Recent history points to a Collingwood win, with the Magpies winning 13 of their last 15 games against the Swans.

Prediction
This is a huge game for both sides and a double chance is on the line for the Swans. They are back home and will end the Magpies’ season tonight.
