A field of eight including Australian horse Criterion has been declared for the Juddmonte International Stakes at York.

The David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Criterion will start from barrier six in Wednesday’s Group One feature billed as a match-race between the unbeaten Golden Horn and dual Guineas winner Gleneagles.

Golden Horn is the 4-6 favourite ahead of Gleneagles at 3-1 with Criterion a 33-1 chance with British bookmakers, and $34 with Bet365 in Australia.

Gleneagles’ trainer Aidan O’Brien has won the past two runnings of the Juddmonte, last year rated the best race in the world.

The trainer’s son Joseph O’Brien will ride Gleneagles with Seamie Heffernan, who won the Sunday’s Secretariat Stakes at Arlington on Cox Plate hopeful Highland Reel, to partner stablemate Cougar Mountain.

Criterion, who will be ridden by William Buick, will enter quarantine after the race in preparation for his return to Australia.

Melbourne Cup hopefuls Trip To Paris and Big Orange can confirm travel plans when they run in Friday’s Lonsdale Cup.
