Warriors halfback Mason Lino will make his debut in Saturday’s do-or-die clash with the North Queensland Cowboys, replacing Chad Townsend due to illness.

Lino is the second-most capped Junior Warriors player after Ben Henry, playing on 62 occasions between 2012 and 2014.

The young halfback has scored 509 career points, crossing for 16 tries and kicking 221 goals, and three field goals, making him the all-time highest point scorer for the club.

His 2014 haul of 212 points (11 tries, 83 goals) was the fourth most in Warriors’ history, and helped to deliver the Auckland-based side their third premiership.

However, Lino was almost lost to the Warriors and the NRL, nearly departing for France.

Elite One Championship side Carcassone had signed the former Junior Warriors captain on a one-year deal, however, they backflipped on the deal as Lino failed to pass a medical test due to a subluxation of his right shoulder caused during the 34-32 win over the Broncos at ANZ Stadium.

The Warriors offered the 2013 Junior Kiwis representative a one-year extension to play in the club’s NSW Cup side, however through form has been able to find his way into the NRL squad.

Lino is no doubt someone to look out for, standing at just 176cm and weighing in at 84kg, he may be small, but he is one of the most talented and toughest young halves running around rugby league.

Lino has already won over the hearts of many – myself included – and is set to earn a new breed of fans.

All the best to Mason as he charges toward a massive future.
