Match Preview:

Manchester City have started the English Premier League season in great form, but if recent history is anything to go by they will have a difficult afternoon at Goodison Park against Everton. Join us for live scores and commentary from 12:50am (AEST).

One of the powerhouse clubs in the EPL, City have struggled against Everton at Goodison Park, winning just one game at the venue since 2010. That win came last year, thanks to an Edin Dzeko brace, while Sergio Aguero added one.

Unfortunately Dzeko is no longer at City, and outside of that win City has only managed one draw and four losses. In the four defeats, City has only managed to score a single goal, which isn’t good reading for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

But City have good recent history against Everton, winning three of their last four against the Toffees, and come into this game in outstanding touch after dispatching current champions Chelsea 3-0 at Etihad Stadium last week.

After some drama towards the end of last season Yaya Toure looks to have found his touch again and has been close to man of the match in both fixtures of the season. At the other end Joe Hart was rarely troubled against Chelsea, in a good sign for the competition leaders.

Meanwhile, Everton got their season back on track with a strong win against Southampton away last week, where Romelu Lukaku grabbed the headlines with a double. After stumbling in the first week with a draw against Watford it was exactly what Roberto Martinez’s side needed.

Ross Barkley was good against Southampton and he will need to be at the top of his game if Everton is to win today. It’s a good test for Everton early in the season to see if they are able to make that jump up and join the top four sides in the league.

They have seemed to just sit around the mid-table, and expectations aren’t as high as they may be at other clubs, Everton’s fans expect progression.

Prediction
Based on recent history and Manchester City’s form, they’ll come away with the points.

City 2-1
