Round 22: Hawks to make scaredy cats of Lions

We see all manner of amazing sights down here in the south
Once there was a flock of hawks, each with a lion in its mouth
The hawks flew over Aurora and were majestic in their flight
The hapless lions had been defeated without too much of a fight.

It was Round 1 last season after Lake unfurled the flag that year
The Hawks were seeking back-to-back and made their intention clear
They burst into the stadium like fierce gladiators of old
Each of them primed for battle, proud to wear the brown and gold.

O’Brien wore the 23 for the first time since the Buddy change
His first kick in league footy was a goal that he nailed from long range
Hodgey showed his courage when he was crunched and slammed into the ground
He wasn’t having a bar of it when Paparone threw his weight around.

At times momentum ebbed and flowed and didn’t always go our way
But the way the Hawks kept fighting back kept the Lions at bay
Five each from Breust and Roughie meant the Hawks were looking fine
As they continued on a winning streak that goes back to 2009.

The Lions once had a three-peat from ’01 to ’03
They were fearsome beasts and hold their place in modern history
But sadly for this mighty team, they’ve had a change of gear
And what was once so powerful no longer instils any fear.

For the Lions aren’t playing like lions but more like scaredy cats
Their lionheart is wounded and they are really down on stats
We should hear from the Lions more of a whimper than a roar
As our mighty Hawks pick them up again and carry them out the door.
