This Saturday, Caulfield will feature the 1400m Group 1 Memsie Stakes, which will be the first Group 1 race of the new racing season.

Its fair to say the 2015 Memsie Stakes has a good evenness about it, and here are the top eight horses to look out for in the race.

3. Boban – Barrier 5
A Chris Waller-trained horse ridden by Glyn Schofield, Boban is a six-year-old who has a winning range between 1300m-1600m. This horse has been in prime form and is no doubt the favourite, and with Schofield as jockey it will charge at all other horses late and be hard to beat.

6. Smokin’ Joey – Barrier 11
Had a poor run on August 5 by coming last, yet he won the two starts before that. They were both under the 1400m, however. Even though it’s predicted this horse will be a bit far back after the start, if he overcomes those issues that he had last start then he is a good chance to go the extra distance and sneak a place.

10. Entirely Platinum – Barrier 7
The last five meetings haven’t looked great on paper but three of those five have been run at 2000m or more. He ran strong races in both the CF Orr and Futurity Stakes, if he reproduces that racing from then he should run a big race, which he is capable of winning.

11. Volkstok’n’Barrell – Barrier 12
This horse is the horse to back! It’s placed in all of its last four meetings that have all been 2000m or more. The only thing letting this horse down is that compared to other horses it hasn’t ran since April this year. But that’s more of a good thing as it’s fresh and ready to race well. He will be in a good position after the start and is a good chance to charge home.

14. Hi World – Barrier 1
A Peter Moody-trained horse who has looked promising in latest time trials and won some good races in Sydney over the autumn. Has drawn a good barrier and with Kerrin McEvoy as the jockey, this horse will be charging home just like Volkstok’N’Barrell.

16. Rising Romance – Barrier 10
This is a horse that hasn’t started since March this year, however it came second in the famous Caulfield Cup last October. Has been racing at distances that exceed 1400m. He is predicted to be in a strong position after the start and is fully capable of running a strong race that finishes with rewards.

17. Stratum Star – Barrier 8
Ran at Caulfield a couple of weeks ago in the 1200m Regal Roller and came seventh out of 15 horses. It is capable of placing at the 1400m-distance mark as shown at Flemington in February. Not backing him highly though, but with a decent barrier is a chance.

20. CHARMED HARMONY – Barrier 15
This horse has won the last three of its 1400m starts in Victoria. A John Sadler-trained horse who is backed at about $4.60 to place and could possibly be a roughie that might get up.

My tips
1. Volkstok’n’Barrell
2. Entirely Platinum
3. Rising Romance
4. Charmed Harmony
