Match Result:
England have backed up their Ashes win with a 5-run victory in this one-off T20 against Australia, continuing what has been a dominant summer for the hosts.

The ODI series, which begins in three days, should be an interesting one given what we have seen here and the way England played against New Zealand in their ODI series recently.

Match Preview:
England and Australia will warm up for the ODI series with a one-off T20 international at Cardiff as they return to the venue of the opening Ashes 2015 Test.

You can follow live scores and a blog of the match from 12:00am AEDT.

With the World T20 to be played in March next year, this will be one of the very few games in this format that both teams will have to get their combination right.

Both teams obviously have a new-looking squad, with some of the players who featured in earlier matches missing from the teams.

England have played just one game in T20 cricket over the last 12 months and it resulted in a win over New Zealand. That came about little over two months back, and needed Joe Root to slam a 46-ball 68 to get them through to 191. David Willey and Mark Wood grabbed three apiece to finish off the Kiwis for a paltry 135.

There will be no Root or Wood today, both of whom have been rested following their successful Ashes 2015 campaign, which has provided the likes of Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes a chance back in the side.

Eoin Morgan, who was recently given a break from domestic cricket by his county side Middlesex in order to rest and recover from fatigue, will lead England in this game.

Australia were to be captained by Aaron Finch, but he seems to have not recovered from the gamut of injuries he picked up since after the World Cup. One occurred during the IPL, while the other happened during his time with Yorkshire during the county season and that leaves Steven Smith with the responsibility of captaining the team.

Their XI was announced a day before the game, what with Marcus Stoinis announced to be making his debut. All-rounder Stoinis had a decent time in the A series Australia played in India recently and his selection comes as a reward for that.

David Warner will be reunited with Shane Watson, who has been pushed out of the Test XI and dropped down to the middle-order in the ODIs. In-form Smith and Glenn Maxwell form the middle-order while Stoinis and Matthew Wade will complete their batting order.

Australia’s fast bowling will lie in the hands of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, at least two of whom are experts in their own rights in this formats. Cameron Boyce joins the Aussie side for one game and will be their lone frontline spinner.
