Last season, Swansea City did the double over Manchester United, including a memorable opening day victory at Old Trafford, and Garry Monk’s side will attempt to make it three on the trot this weekend.

Manchester United have started the season admirably, with two wins and a loss from their opening three fixtures – additionally, they are yet to concede a goal. Their opponents sit at two draws and a victory from three, and have taken down Newcastle and drawn with cellar dwellers Sunderland following their opening 2-2 thriller with Chelsea.

It is worth noting that the only side Manchester United have not taken the three points from this season is the only side Swansea have beaten – Newcastle United.

Much of the talk in recent weeks surrounding Louis van Gaal’s side has revolved around the scoring form, or lack thereof, of Wayne Rooney. However, in a midweek Champions League fixture against Club Brugge, the skipper put that talk to bed with a well taken hat-trick. There is no doubt Rooney will be intent on transferring this scoring form to the domestic competition.

In player news, the Red Devils remain without defenders Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo, who have struggled to regain match fitness of late. While their opponents are completely injury free and will no doubt field a full strength XI.

The players to watch in this one will be United’s forward pairing of Rooney and Memphis Depay as well as midfield maestro Juan Mata. The trio form United’s main avenue to goal, one which Garry Monk will be acutely aware of the need to halt.

For the Swans, Bafetimbi Gomis has been in elite goal scoring touch with a goal in each of the opening three fixtures this campaign. While new boy Andre Ayew has looked a marvellous acquisition having notched in two of his opening three Premier League fixtures following his move from Marseille.

Prediction: Swansea 1-1 Manchester United
