Djokovic will be wanting to win his tenth grand slam with a win in New York and is on the path to doing so. The Serbian has struggled recently against other seeds with losses to Roger Federer and Andy Murray in the Final of the Cincinnati and Canadian Masters respectively.

These are, however, his only losses since being defeated by Stanislas Wawrinka at Roland Garros. His struggles to knock-off the second and third seeds may cause him troubles but will have no bearing in the first round.

Joao Souza has struggled lately and hasn’t won since Braunschweig in week 28. The 89th ranked Brazilian will face a huge test in Djokovic and will hope to give the Wimbledon champion a tough time.

Djokovic and Souza have not played each other. Djokovic has a win-loss record of 8-2 in his last ten matches and is coming off a loss in straight sets to Roger Federer 7-6, 6-3.

Souza was defeated by Malek Jaziri in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 as part of his lead-up to the US Open. He has a win-loss record of 1-9 in his last ten matches.

We all know just how good Djokovic is, and aside from a couple of upsets involving Nadal and Federer, we haven’t seen a really high men’s seed drop out of a Grand Slam early in a fair while now. This should continue here.

Prediction
Djokovic will be far too strong.
