This is it. This is my grand final Week. What do you mean the NRL finals haven’t started yet? Oh, we’re talking about different things. This is my grand final week for NRL SuperCoach.
For those of you who have not been following my progress, as we head into the final week of the competition, the team I am helping to manage is running third. We are 15 points behind the lead so in it with a real shot. The winner of SuperCoach receives $30,000. $30,000 – excuse me while I take another deep breath.
Now, I know many of you will play NRL SuperCoach on here so will be jumping on to the leader board to make sure I’m not telling lies. When you jump onto the leader board, you will see that third place is a man called Lawrence and his team is called ‘the Dogs of War.’ I’ll forgive you for thinking, MK you’re not a dude, your name isn’t Lawrence and you support the Eels.
The story behind the team is that the owner of the team is one of my mentors, who asked for some assistance at the beginning of the year with his NRL SuperCoach team.
I do not have a team of my own because I had always vowed that I would never play because of the massive time commitment it takes, but I have such tremendous respect for this mentor that I agreed. Since then, we have been on a tremendous journey together and I have learnt the game of NRL SuperCoach in a year.
Now, terms like AE, God, Gurgess and Break Even mean something to me. I have fallen in love with players I never thought I would like and cheered for results that would make me cringe at any other time of the year. I have strategised, debated, argued and fretted over Captain selection, trades and whether to use the VC loophole.
I have never been more stressed and never pulled more of my hair out… but never loved the game of rugby league more.
It has been magic.
I am heading into the final week now and it has already been the cause of much stress. But, when I look back over this season, to have helped lead a team even to third place (out of over 118,000 competitors) is outstanding. For someone who did not know anything about SuperCoach to have achieved this in my rookie year, is something I will always be proud of.
Before I sign off, I would like to take this opportunity to thank some players, who really have made all the difference to my team this year.
A big thank you to Anthony “Milf” Milford, Corey “God” Parker, Jack “Birdman” Bird, James “Teddy” Tedesco, Jordan Kahu, Solomone Kata, Roger “RTS” Tuivasa-Sheck, James “BBQ” Maloney and Semi Radradra.
To all of you – you are such talented footballers. At some point in the season (or at many points) you have been the difference for me. I have fallen in love with all of you this year and you have a new fan in Mary K. Congratulations on your efforts this year, I’ve been so proud to have you as part of my ‘Dogs of War’ team.
My chances of reaching my competitors are slim, but to the leader ‘Slater Magic’, you have played an outstanding game. To be leading for so many weeks and to survive even with the injury of Michael Lichaa is a testament to how well you know the game. Good luck this weekend.
And to the challenger, Storm is Coming – you have also played a tremendous game.
May the best team win.
