Can Andreas Haider-Maurer match it with first seed Novak Djokovic in the second round of the US Open? Join The Roar for live scores from around 10.30am (AEST) following the completion of Irina Falconi and Venus Williams.

Djokovic is well on his way to claiming his tenth grand slam and will not show any mercy against a second round opponent. The Serbian has recently struggled against other seeds with losses to Roger Federer and Andy Murray in the Final of the Cincinnati and Canadian Masters respectively. This however should have no bearing on his match-up with Andreas.

But if anyone is to cause an upset during the second round, it will be Andreas Haider-Maurer. The Austrian is ranked 52nd on the ATP Tour and caused an upset in the opening round by defeating 45th ranked Canadian Vasek Pospisil in a five set thriller 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 6-0, 6-1.

It will be a tough task for Andreas but he should push Djokovic to his limits and claim at least one set based off recent showings against Pospisil, Berlocq, Thiem and Monfils.

Djokovic defeated Andreas Haider-Maurer in their only ever encounter at Monte Carlo this year with a win in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. The Serbian is the first seed in the US Open and holds a win-loss record of 8-2 in his last ten matches including a win over Joao Souza in straight sets during the first round 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. Haider-Maurer also has a win-loss record of 8-2.

Prediction
Haider-Maurer will test Djokovic but won’t be able to match the world number one.
