Can Rafael Nadal progress to the third round with a win over Diego Sebastian Schwartzman? Join The Roar for live scores from around 4.30am (AEST) following the completion of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Coco Vandeweghe.

Rafael Nadal has fallen from his best form lately and will want to return to his best, and add to his collection of grand slam wins which already feature victories at New York in 2010 and 2013.

The ‘King of Clay’ should ease through his second round match-up with Schwartzman without any hassle and keep his opponent quiet today.

This match will be one of the most important in Schwartzman’s career as he wishes to press past his record grand slam run into the third round. The 23-year old Argentinian will no doubt put in his best performance but must match it with Nadal’s shots by defending his line and attacking with strong strokes.

Nadal and Schwartzman have played each other once, with Nadal winning at Acapulco in 2013 in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Nadal has a win-loss record of 8-2 in his last ten matches and is coming off a win over Borna Coric in the first round which he did in four sets 6-3, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Schwartzman opened his US Open campaign with a win in straight sets over Elias Ymer 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. He holds a win-loss record of 4-6.

Prediction
Nadal will simply be too strong for Schwartzman.
