Round 23: Hawthorn vs Carlton in the battle of Bolton's boys

In the blink of an eye it’s the last game before finals start
But there won’t be too much in it so be still my beating heart
This round sees the mighty Hawks take on Brendon Bolton’s Blues
There can only be one winner and I know which one I’ll choose.

The two teams have already played, in Round 17 this year
Unfortunately for the Blues they did not get out of first gear
In 119 years of football came their greatest defeat
It was a complete annihilation that they don’t want to repeat.

At times the Hawks just seemed to toy with their helpless Carlton prey
And no matter where a Blue would run, a Hawk stood in his way
Jack Gunston’s score alone could have been enough to beat the Blues
I bet the thought of facing us has got them quaking in their shoes.

In less than two minutes Poppy had kicked a couple of goals
But it took 66 minutes for Carlton to put two through the poles
The Hawthorn pressure was outstanding and forced repeated mistakes
Carlton just could not push through, but sometimes them’s the breaks.

One Blue bravely took on Hodgey but didn’t hear his Norm Smiths rattle
Sadly for that young lad he was never going to win that battle
‘Duck’ Carey looked a real goose when he said Mitch was way too slow
But his judgement is flawed from too many head knocks, don’t you know.

So it’s onward and upward as we look to next Saturday’s game
And from our awesome Hawks we’ll expect a lot more of the same
To a special mate “good luck” as you set out on your latest quest
You are soooo going to need it Bolts, and we wish you all the best.
