Sitting in ninth place on the NRL ladder, the Manly Sea Eagles are still a chance of cracking the finals according to bookmakers. Granted it’s an $81 chance, but where there is life there is hope.

For this to occur, the Dragons and Sharks both have to be beaten by an average of 30.5 points – last week’s 36-point loss to the Roosters significantly hurt Manly. If they had put in to at least limit the loss then this average would be reduced.

But they didn’t and they now find themselves in a ridiculously improbable situation.

But if any team was going to sneak in, just to annoy the rest of the comp and break the Dragons’ hearts, it would be Manly. It is the old cliche that the good sides find a way, and Manly have been in the finals for the last decade for a very good reason.

The Sea Eagles could win and the Dragons lose this weekend, but the margin in both games is the clincher, with Manly trailing St George Illawarra by 61 points in for and against.

Still, if the young Tigers turn it on for Robbie Farah and pile on the points late in the second half, the Dragons could have a nervous wait.

Manly may just turn up at Remondis, and the fiercely competitive Kieran Foran and Jamie Lyon could spearhead one of the most astonishing victories ever recorded.

Do I think it will happen? Probably not.

Do I want the Sea Eagles to make the finals? No, they have had their share.

Do I want to see it happen? Yes. Because that is what sport is all about, an $81 upset.
