In what could well be one of the most one sided matches at the 2015 US Open, Belgium’s Steve Darcis will take on the second seed Roger Federer.

Join The Roar for live scores of this second round match up from 9am (AEST) when they do battle on the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Darcis, although being ranked in the top 70 in the world does not like the hard courts what so ever and subsequently has a horrific record on them. Looking at his build up to the US Open this year, he has mainly done so on clay courts after being knocked out in the first round of action at Wimbledon.

His only game on the hard courts before the US Open was one in which he retired after only two games because of injury. Oppositely, his first round match at the US Open against crowd favourite Marcos Baghdatis was won after Baghdatis was forced to pull out midway through the fifth set.

At the time however Darcis was up three games to one and looking fairly solid. Darcis has previously had six cracks at the US Open and hasn’t made it past the second round. Frankly it is hard to see this changing.

Federer meanwhile has statistics that are barely worth repeating for the millionth time. Having won the US Open on five separate occasions and a total of sixteen grand slams throughout his illustrious career, the question now is can he win any more before he retires?

His form this year has been looking good in the lead up to the US Open having won his only tournament on the hard court and beating Novak Djokovic in the final rather convincingly in straight sets. In fact he didn’t lose a set across the whole tournament and will be looking to transfer that sort of form across to the US Open.

His first round was a straight sets demolition job of Leonardo Mayer, only dropping five games across the three sets. If he plays anything like that against Darcis, who is arguably not quite the player Mayer is then he might struggle to win a game of this let alone a set.

The pair have never played before which is the only question of doubt hovering over this game.

If the betting odds are anything to go by then Federer is a certainty. No odds are being offered on Federer, while you can pick up $34.00 on Darcis winning.

Prediction: Federer in a canter. Darcis will struggle to pick up a game throughout the match here.

Federer in straight sets.
