Will Roger Federer come within a win of his sixth US Open title or can Stanislas Wawrinka keep his shot at winning his maiden title in New York and third grand slam alive? Join The Roar for live scores from around 9am (AEST) following the completion of Novak Djokovic and Marin Cilic.

Roger Federer is on his last legs in his quest for a sixth US Open title, after wins from 2004-08. Victory over countryman Stanislas Wawrinka would put him in a demanding position against either first seed Novak Djokovic or defending champion Marin Cilic.

Federer is the second tournament seed with an undefeated record in his last 10 matches, including a tournament win at the Cincinnati Masters.

Wawrinka is the fifth seed and holds a win-loss record in his last 10 matches of 7-3, plagued by losses to Richard Gasquet, Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon, the Canadian Masters and the Cincinnati Masters respectively. But Wawrinka has cruised through the tournament thus far.

Wawrinka has only been to the semi-finals of the US Open once before (2013), putting him in a vulnerable position, despite grand slam titles in Melbourne (2014) and Paris (2015).

Federer and Wawrinka have played each other in 19 matches, with Roger winning 16, while of their five grand slams matches Wawrinka has only one win. Their most recent encounter was the 2015 quarter-final at Roland Garros, where the Stanimal won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, 7-6. They also met at the 2015 Rome Masters with Federer victorious in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

Prediction
Wawrinka will fight to stay alive but Federer will simply be too strong.

Federer in four sets.
