Yvonne Mentor is your typical netball mum, and recently was on hand to support her daughter, England captain and Melbourne Vixen defender Geva Mentor, at the Netball World Cup in Sydney.

Yvonne has now combined her family love of netball with her passion of volunteer work, organising second hand netball uniforms from associations in Australia and England to be donated to women in developing nations.

Her campaign began in Zambia, but the response to her project has been incredibly successful, and she was able to donate to other developing nations, handing the goods over to the representing teams at the recent Netball World Cup in Sydney.

These teams, including Uganda, Zimbabwe and Malawi, were able to take these uniforms back to their countries and distribute to villages and communities in the area.

Generous netball associations have driven for hours to meet Yvonne to drop off their donations. One lady from Victoria drove for three hours to ensure her donation made it.

The Melbourne Vixens along with Netball Australia and various state netball associations have also contributed to the campaign.

“People have been incredibly generous; it’s really humbling,” Yvonne said.

“Netball is a female family and this is an opportunity to show how fellow women can help others out less fortunate around the world.”

“Netball is their social outlet.”

Geva Mentor will return as goalkeeper for the Melbourne Vixens in 2016. It will be her eighth season in the Championships.
