Gold Coast forward Luke Douglas has claimed the Paul Broughton Medal as the NRL club’s player of the year.

In his 10th NRL campaign, the durable Douglas beat fellow forward Ryan James and flyer James Roberts to the prize.

Douglas, whose run of 215 consecutive games from his NRL debut in 2006 to August 2014 is a record for the competition, picked up 22 votes in the season to finish three clear of James.

Roberts was well back in third position with 14 points.

It’s the 29-year-old’s first Paul Broughton Medal.

“The medal is a fitting reward for Luke’s consistency and professionalism,” Titans coach Neil Henry said.

“He is one of rugby league’s most dedicated and durable warriors, a genuine team man who is a model professional for any aspiring player in how he prepares himself to be able to do the best job possible week-in and week-out.”

Douglas will be hoping to make it two wins from two this off-season after being nominated for the NRL’s Ken Stephen Medal for his off-field contributions within the community.

First-year halfback Kane Elgey claimed the rookie of the year prize while Shaun Hudson was named the under-20s player of the year.
