Group 1s: Moir Stakes and Turnbull Stakes fields - big runners and full fields

Unbeaten filly Petits Filous and the return of Buffering headline a field of 13 declared for the Group One Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley.

The Ciaron Maher-trained Petits Filous is among a trio of three-year-olds in Friday night’s 1000m weight-for-age sprint, along with fellow filly Fontiton and Hawkes Racing-trained colt Headwater.

Petits Filous has barrier five, one inside defending champion Buffering.

The Joe Pride-trained Ball Of Muscle has barrier one while Brook Road has drawn the outside.

The Moir is one of four stakes races on Friday night’s program which also includes the Stutt Stakes for three-year-olds, a traditional lead-up to the Caulfield Guineas.

Group 1 Turnbull Stakes- Full Field declared
A capacity field featuring 11 Group One winners has been declared for the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.

The 2013 winner Happy Trails has topweight of 59kg in Sunday’s 2000m feature, run under set weights plus penalties conditions.

The Paul Beshara-trained gelding has drawn barrier three in the full field of 16 plus one emergency.

Last year’s Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist has barrier two while Godolphin import Hartnell has drawn wide in barrier 15.

Rising Romance has to contend with the outside gate while Alpine Eagle has also drawn out in barrier 14.

Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller has accepted with Victoria Derby winner Preferment (barrier 10), Who Shot TheBarman (four), Weary (nine) and Royal Descent who had gate 13.
