Matildas coach Alen Stajcic has named a 22-player squad for a training camp in Canberra to be used as a launching pad for a pre-Olympic tournament in China.

Most of the squad comprises players from the Matildas’ Women’s World Cup campaign, with 16 of the 22 having been part of Australia’s run to the quarter-finals in Canada.

The other six players selected are Newcastle W-League duo Tara Andrew and Georgia Yeoman-Dale, Sydney FC’s Princess Ibini-Isei and Amy Harrison, Canberra United’s Ellie Brush and Western Sydney defender Caitlin Cooper.

The camp at the Australian Institute of Sport from Monday to Thursday (Oct 5-8) will be used as a tune-up for the China tournament, scheduled to begin on October 23.

The event is set to be a vital part of the Matildas’ preparations for February’s qualifiers ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The announcement of the squad comes after Football Federation Australia’s confirmation that the Matildas’ plans for the Olympic qualifiers will continue after the acceptance of an interim deal by the Professional Footballers Australia (PFA).
