The Green Bay Packers have kept their undefeated streak alive as they defeated the San Francisco 49ers 17-3 on the road.

Aaron Rodgers may not have had a 300+ yard, five-touchdown game like he did last week, but he played a good match nonetheless. The quarterback finished with 22 of 32 for 224 yards and a touchdown.

He was helped on the ground by Eddie Lacy, who had 18 carries for 90 yards.

Rodgers himself got in on the ground action, notching three carries for 33 yards. It’s promising to see that the calf injury he suffered late last year hasn’t restricted his mobility this season.

Even the fullback got a carry. John Kuhn ran it in from one yard out to put the Packers up 14-3 in the third quarter before Mason Crosby put the nail in the coffin with a 31-yard field goal to put the Packers up by a score of two touchdowns.

James Jones put in another great performance in the air, catching five balls for 98 yards.

Randall Cobb was limited to four catches for 44 yards, while tight end Richard Rodgers caught five passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.

The Rodgers-to-Rodgers connection came to fruition on the Packers’ opening drive, just over nine minutes in. The 49ers got a sack on third down, but an illegal holding penalty nullified the play and gave Green Bay a first down. From there, they drove down the field to put themselves up 7-0.

The defence terrorised Colin Kaepernick all day, as they sacked the struggling star six times as well as picking off a pass.

In addition, they forced a fumble, and were dominant for the whole game. The ability to get after the passer definitely rattled the 49ers and put fear into their o-line.

As you might have guessed, Kaepernick had another woeful day, although not as bad as his four interception game against the Cardinals last week.

He completed 13 of 25 passes for 160 yards and a pick, once again relying on his feet to save him, carrying the ball 10 times for 57 yards.

The only 49ers points came on a Phil Dawson-field goal from 33 yards out in the second quarter.

Neither the ground game nor the efforts in the air were even borderline ‘okay’, and this is now the third straight game that San Francisco has lost. The defence sacked Rodgers three times, but they cannot afford to give up 18 first downs and 362 yards of offense and expect to win games.

Jarryd Hayne had an even more forgettable game than last time out. With Reggie Bush back in the fold, he didn’t even get a look in in the running game, even though Bush only had one carry for no yards.

The punt returns were even worse – in a flashback to his first game, Hayne muffed the punt, although luckily this time the 49ers recovered it. His longest punt return of the day was six yards.

With a poor performance, Hayne could see even more limited action going forward (if that was possible). He’s clearly not going to be used as a running back, and if he keeps failing to catch punts, his duties there could be stripped from him in favour of players like Bruce Ellington and DeAndrew White.
